I’ve been a ColdFusion advocate for 15 years now. With each new release, I wonder what else they can do with this great application server. Most of the time, I’m surprised and often very impressed. ColdFusion 10 is no exception.
ColdFusion developers are have always been able to publish high quality HTML applications in a shorter time while keeping pace with demand. With the explosion of mobile app use, the release of Adobe ColdFusion 10 could not have come at a better time.
ColdFusion offers seamless, out of the box integration with HTML5, allowing developers to provide better user experiences with higher quality products. ColdFusion 10 allows the entire enterprise app development process to be more efficient thanks to its built-in tools. This is especially important as mobile apps are becoming increasingly popular for business consumer engagement.
The goal of ColdFusion has always been to reduce complex business logic into a few lines of code, accelerating the development cycle. ColdFusion 10 brings in the same capability with HTML5 application development. It helps developers deliver rich user experiences by adding WebSockets, video players, GeoTagging and interactive charting components at the touch of a button. And ColdFusion Builder gives developers the tools to condense enormous tasks into easily manageable projects and rapidly build and deploy scalable Java EE applications to satisfy large-scale business needs in the enterprise.
Adding HTML5 support is critical for mobile applications because there is no need for third party APIs or browser plug-ins. ColdFusion 10 comes with a large repository of HTML5 charts which before would have required Flash Player. The HTML5 charts, as well as the other HTML5 components, work in both XML and JSON data formats which can be integrated with server-side technologies such as ASP, PHP, JSP, in addition to ColdFusion.
Security with web applications, let alone HTML5 apps, is always a concern no matter the technology. ColdFusion 10 will ease your fears as it contains functions to prevent cross-site scripting and forgery. There are also enhanced login procedures that strengthen authentication.
Other useful enhancements for developers include the integration with Apache Tomcat, an open source software implementation of the Java Servlet and JavaServer Pages technologies. Thanks to a large community of Tomcat developers, keeping up with the latest web standards will be much easier.
