Ok, so HTML5 might not be limitless, but you have to admit, this “5″ stuff is pretty amazing. With a wide variety of dynamic features conveniently bridging the gap between code and markup, it doesn’t take much to create something innovatively brilliant. HTML5 brings with it several dynamic features, including: Geolocation, Web Workers, embedded media, and many other tools to explore. Each of these contributes to reducing the number of interlocking technologies needed to create rich websites, thus boosting the capabilities of web developers. There are already many examples of rich sites that make effective and extensive use of HTML5 in some very creative ways. We chose just a few to highlight:

Geolocation
One interesting example of Geolocation is gov.uk. The UK government has set in motion an initiative to make public data useful and accessible to its citizens. The developers of the gov.uk website made a conscious effort to leverage HTML5 in order to stay on the cutting edge of web technology and in order to provide users with an optimal experience. For instance, the geolocation API comes into play when tailoring access of public information pertaining to a citizen’s closest local governing body.

WebWorkers
This non-profit, which makes academic lessons of all sorts freely available to the world, has leveraged HTML5 in order to make its computer science lessons more intuitive. Its developers used a combination of Web Workers and postMessage in order to create a real-time split plane lesson that enables the crucial feature of giving students instant feedback.

3D Games
One of the most stunning possibilities of HTML 5 is creating full browser-based instances of some of the most computationally intensive types of applications – 3D games. BananaBread is a first-person shooting game derived from a C++/OpenGL engine that has been compiled into JavaScript and WebGL. It provides a reasonable benchmark for the performance of browser-based 3D gaming, which is steadily increasing.

These are just a few examples of creativity with HTML5 Engineering. If you are looking to explore the possibilities of HTML5 and would like to talk with an expert in the field, we would love to hear from you. Our people enjoy talking ideas.

Session: Simple and Usable

From an engineer’s perspective; the requirements are incomplete and misguided, the design is impossible, and the users are, well, we’ll just say PIBKAC. Luckily there are strategies that will help you tackle these problems. This session will describe the common issues involved with the creation of applications and discuss how to make both the software and the process more simple and usable.

What is D2W?

D2W is a conference that brings together designers and developers and shows how to improve workflow processes. No one works with just one application any longer, and Web professionals rarely work by themselves for an entire project. Through collaboration with our teams, using a variety of applications, we achieve our greatest successes.

D2W is a unique 3-day conference allowing speakers to break into new territory, a territory where Web professionals live day in and day out. All of the sessions will discuss workflow between designers and developers (and the applications they use), with a few business sessions thrown in.

There are 3 main tracks; designer, developer, and mobile. This event will be held on July 14-16, 2011 from 9am – 6pm at Crowne Plaza, in downtown Kansas City MO. The conference is $295. What a bargain! So – register today!

Performance is critical for custom software applications. At Intelisea, On3 was able to help with architecture and software design improvements using Flex which significantly enhanced their embedded application’s performance. Intelisea knew that the appearance of their dashboard application needed to provide feedback to the ship’s captain in different lighting conditions. On3 helped develop that rich application to improve business outcomes: in this case – weather and navigation information that keeps a ship off the rocks and moving toward its destination, even in poor weather conditions. Flex’s dynamic user interface is one of the main reasons that Flex was selected for this project instead of another less capable development environment to build intuitive software that incites interaction. On3 provides Flex developers, Adobe AIR engineers, ColdFusion consultants, in addition to training, software development, and consulting in Flex, iPad & iPhone, Android, Adobe AIR, HTML5, and ColdFusion in Denver, Colorado.
